“Tomar”, Functional Art Chair by Baltasar Portillo
Functional art chair in blackened wrought iron with brass insets by artist Baltasar Portillo, El Salvador, 2016. Edition of one.
The “Tomar” chair is inspired by the Celts from a medieval culture. The wrought iron has a patina using the ancient method of blackening metal to protect it from oxidation. Baltasar Portillo constructed an oven with rocks and clay and burned the chair over a layer of gravel and subsequently dipped it in a substance from an old recipe of metallurgic.
